Cemetery chapel in Frohnhofen

The cemetery of Frohnhofen , a district of the Reichelsheim community in the Odenwaldkreis in Hesse , once served as a cemetery for eleven communities in the Reichelsheim parish .

history

The on Leimberg located cemetery was used by the eleven municipalities of the parish Reichelsheim. The nearby village of Frohnhofen, where the cemetery is located today, has been occupied since 1307 and was owned by the taverns and later Counts of Erbach , who had the right of patronage in the parish. A cemetery chapel was built in 1592 and renewed in 1722. The cemetery lost its importance with the establishment of the new cemetery on Laudenauer Strasse. The listed cemetery chapel was renovated in an inadequate manner in 1964/65.

The chapel has a free-standing bell cage in which the old Our Father's bell from 1446 from the Protestant church in Reichelsheim is located. An old gravestone from 1775 on the outer wall of the chapel is the only surviving older grave monument in the cemetery.
