The Weißenfels cemetery is a listed cemetery in the town of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the cemetery is listed as an architectural monument under registration number 094 15322 . The old cemetery of Weißenfels is located northwest of today's cemetery.

General

The cemetery is surrounded by the streets Am Sausenhölzchen, Seumestraße and Am Kugelberg . In the cemetery there is a war cemetery for the dead of the First World War . The memorial for the fallen is located in the old cemetery of Weißenfels.

German War Memorial

On the cemetery there is a memorial for the soldiers of Prussia and Austria who died in the military hospital of Weißenfels in the German War of 1866. The memorial was inaugurated on July 3, 1867. The inscription also contains the names of the soldiers who died .

Memorial stone for French soldiers

A memorial stone for French soldiers who fell in the Franco-Prussian War is on the cemetery grounds. The inscription on the memorial stone reads A la Memoire des Soldats francais ... and the names of the fallen. Parts of the inscription are no longer legible.

Franco-German War Memorial

The Franco-German War Memorial was built by the Patriotic Women's Association. It is dedicated to the German soldiers who died in the Weißenfels military hospital. The memorial is a red plastered plinth , which is decorated with an iron cross on the front . The inscription on the front reads Dedicated by the Patriotic Women's Association and on the back I fought a good fight ... ... Crown of Justice. Nobody has a greater love than that he gives his life for his friends. Joh.XV.18 . Furthermore, there is the inscription Here in God rest in the war of 1870/71 German warriors who died in the hospitals in Weissenfels and the names of the deceased soldiers on the base. The inscriptions are barely legible due to weathering.

For those who died in the March riots in 1920 , a boulder was erected on a pedestal in the cemetery as a memorial stone . Its inscription reads THE MARCH FIGHTERS FALLEN FOR THE PROLETARIAT Cause . There is a separate memorial stone for the three policemen killed during the riots, the inscription of which gives names and ranks. There is a stone bowl in front of it.

The name plaque on the stone is more recent than the memorial stone and contains the inscription This is where Polish citizens are buried, tortured to death as slave laborers by the Nazi regime and the names of the Polish citizens.
