history

Situation before 1872

The Spiekerhörn district on the Krückau River belonged to the Elmshorn parish . This meant that their dead in spots Elmshorn be buried had. The transfer to the distant Elmshorn could only be carried out by water in winter because the paths were impassable. This often caused problems when the Krückau had ice or was frozen over.

Parish and new cemetery

Efforts were therefore made to incorporate the Spiekerhörn village church into the closer Neuendorf. A first attempt in 1871 did not find a majority in the Neuendorfer community, but in June 1872 Spiekerhörn and Landscheide were finally re-parish to Neuendorf. However, the Spiekerhorns were required to create and maintain their own churchyard in their village. Therefore, in 1872 the owner of the farm, Hermann Früchtnicht, donated a piece of land 20 m wide and 20 m long for a cemetery. His wish to be the first to be buried in the new cemetery came true.

Todays situation

The cemetery is now subordinate to the Kollmar / Neuendorf cemetery administration. Funerals continue to take place. This is preceded by a memorial service in the Trinity Church in Neuendorf . Then the dead are escorted to the Spiekerhörner cemetery.

You gave him your roommates out of love.
Now rest in peace, loved by everyone here.
Soon we too will be down here, where no pain can cloud us any more.
