from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Friedrich-Ebert-Straße is one of the main streets in Potsdam . It connects the northern city center with the Nauener Vorstadt and leads from Schloßstraße through the Nauener Tor to the crossing Reiterweg / Alleestraße.

history

The street named after the first German Reich President Friedrich Ebert ( SPD ) was created in 1946 by merging Hohewegstraße , Nauener Straße and Spandauer Straße . Hohewegstraße was the name of the section between Schloßstraße and Stadtkanal , Nauener Straße was the section between Stadtkanal and Nauener Tor, and Spandauer Straße was the section between Nauener Tor and Alleestraße. During the GDR era, the street name was related to the East Berlin mayor Friedrich Ebert junior ( SED ) for ideological reasons .

There are numerous shops, restaurants and public institutions in Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. In addition, several bus and tram lines run by the Potsdam transport company . The main attractions on the street include the Dutch Quarter , Nauener Tor and the town house .

As part of the reconstruction of Potsdamer Mitte, the eight corners and the headquarters will also return to Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. In addition, a redesign to the boulevard is planned.
