Friedrich Koenig Monument

The Friedrich Koenig Monument is a memorial in the Lutherstadt Eisleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

It was built in 1891 for the printer Friedrich Koenig . Friedrich Koenig, who was born in Eisleben, excelled as the inventor of the high-speed press, which is important for book printing . The memorial created by Fritz Schaper is on Friedrich-Koenig-Strasse and the corner of Wilhelm-Beinert-Strasse and shows a larger than life bronze bust depicting Koenig . The bust perched on a pedestal of granite and is equipped with scrolls in the style of Baroque decorated. On the pedestal is the inscription: DEM / INVENTOR OF THE / SCHNELLPRESSE / FRIEDRICH / KOENIG / A SON / EISLEBENS . The monument is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. In the pavement in front of the monument, the year of the monument's erection, 1891, is embedded.
