The Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium is a high school in Weimar . It was named after Friedrich Schiller .
history
Originally planned as a girls' school, the building, which was built in two construction phases between 1927 and 1936, was used as a secondary school from January 8, 1931, and as an upper secondary school from 1936. From September 1, 1939, it served as a hospital. As early as October 1945, the building resumed operations as a school.
In 1960 the school became an extended secondary school (EOS) in the education system of the GDR . After the German reunification in 1990, the mathematical / scientific orientation of the former Oberrealgymnasium was resumed, and a year later in December 1991 the school was named Staatliches Gymnasium Friedrich Schiller .
School profile
The school is a mathematics and science oriented grammar school. This is reflected in the increased number of lessons in mathematics , physics , biology and chemistry in higher grades and an additional hour in astronomy in the tenth grade.
In addition, working groups are offered in these subjects. In the field of astronomy, the school has its own observatory on the roof of the building. After renovation work, the school will also have its own planetarium.
