The Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Zeulenroda is a grammar school founded in 1991 . The premises were used as a high school as early as 1885 and thus predecessor of the current grammar school. It was renamed on May 8, 1992 after the writer and philosopher Friedrich Schiller . Today's grammar school consists of two buildings: House 1 in Schopperstraße 26 (5th – 10th grade) and House 2 on Dr.-Gebler-Platz 7 (11th and 12th grade) - the former "Krocker- Pen".

history

Krocker-Stift (today's house 2)

The first considerations for building a new school came from the then school director Nikolai in the period from June 17 to 25, 1885. The boys 'school was in the Krocker-Stift until then, the girls' school next to the Dreieinigkeitskirche and the so-called 2nd citizen school in the annex of the town hall. As early as July 3, 1885, the city administration decided to take a closer look at the topic and ordered the first inspections of the rooms and buildings.

The Realschule Zeulenroda was founded in 1906 - the predecessor of today's Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium. In 1911, the director of studies, Ernst Stemmann, came to the Zeulenroda secondary school. Under his leadership, the junior high and high school developed into a high school.

From 1959 to 1991 the Extended Oberschule (EOS) was located in the premises of today's House 2. From 1972 it was called "Extended Oberschule Fritz Heckert".

On September 1, 1991, the “Staatliche Gymnasium Zeulenroda” was founded through the merger of the former extended secondary school and the Friedrich Schiller School (today's house 1). On May 8, 1992, she was given the name "Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium".

House 2 of the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium on Dr.-Gebler-Platz

Extensive expansion and renovation work began in early 1993. While House 2 was expanded to include an annex with a chemistry cabinet, renovation work on the gym began in mid-August of the same year - due to fungal attack and the risk of collapse. In June 1996 the auditorium was renewed, which is characterized by its old lead glazing.

In 1999 and 2000 the grammar school was expanded by two computer cabinets. This was made possible primarily through donations from local companies.

In 2006 a school festival week was held from June 10th to 16th under the motto “100 Years of Higher Education in Zeulenroda”, during which, among other things, a musical by the school's own theater troupe, specially rehearsed for the anniversary, celebrated its premiere.

Since October 2007 there has been a cooperation agreement with the Zeulenroda vocational school under the main theme "Economy - Practice". The aim of this development project is better practical preparation for training or study and work. Furthermore, since November 11, 2009, there has been a cooperation agreement with "LACOS Computerservice GmbH" Zeulenroda and the Technical University of Ilmenau . The content is the deepening of the relationships with the partners and the development of new tasks and professional fields by the students.

Working groups

In addition to working groups for chess, technology, art and French, there are also groups for photography, handball, volleyball, table tennis and theater. The school also has its own choir.

School events

The 11th grade students organize a carnival ball every year. The proceeds go to their ABI balls, which traditionally take place one day after the Abitur certificates are issued.

In addition to these events, there has also been an annual general meeting of students since 2007, which aims to highlight special achievements by students during the last school year. This is mainly planned and organized by the members of the student council and volunteers.

In addition, there are annual sports festivals, music events, musical tours, internships in the 9th and 10th grades or study trips abroad in the 11th grade. With the "Friedrichs" the high school also has its own school newspaper.

Support association

A support association has existed since May 1993. It has set itself the goal of promoting and supporting schoolchildren in all matters. This includes, among other things, financial support for working groups, tutoring or excursions. Anyone who wants to get involved as a former student, teacher or parent can become a member.
