Friedrich Emil Roetig

Friedrich Emil Roetig , also called Rötig or Rettig (born March 14, 1814 in Hachenburg ; † April 28, 1863 there ), was a German watchmaker .

life and work

Friedrich Emil Roetig was born on March 14, 1814 in Hachenburg as the son of the watchmaker Friedrich Wilhelm Roetig and his wife Maria Magdalene, née Lorsbach. Friedrich Emil Roetig married Anna Katharina Rößgen on October 9, 1854 and lived in Hachenburg until his death. He died at the age of 49. Friedrich Emil left a son, Friedrich Joseph (born 1857), who upheld the family tradition in the fifth generation until he died childless in Hachenburg in 1927.

As a watchmaker, Friedrich Emil was mainly involved in the manufacture of small watches . He became known for his ' Taleruhren '. By miniaturizing the clockwork , he was able to build it into a Prussian thaler . In addition to small clocks, he also made saw clocks. Two of these saw clocks, one finished and one unfinished, were kept in Hachenburg for many years. Today they are privately owned.
