Rhenium (IV) iodide is an inorganic chemical compound of rhenium from the group of iodides .
Extraction and presentation
Rhenium (IV) iodide can be obtained by reacting a perrhenic acid solution (obtained by dissolving rhenium (VII) oxide in water) with hydroiodic acid.

Rhenium (IV) iodide is a hygroscopic black powder. It is soluble in acetone and ether; hydrolysis occurs in water . In a vacuum it loses iodine at room temperature. Its structure consists of Re 2 I 9 units which are connected to the iodine atoms to form zigzag chains.
