Jörg-Oliver Weinöhl (born July 19, 1970 in Rüsselsheim ) is a German choreographer and dancer .

Life

At the age of 18, Jörg Weinöhl began his ballet training at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart . After graduating from high school , she was accepted into the training class of the state ballet academy. During this time he danced in performances with the Stuttgart Ballet . His teachers included Sigrid Habermann, Gillian Perry, Adriana Peeva, Heinz Clauss and Alex Ursuliak.

In 1993, after graduating from Marcia Haydée , he was hired by the Stuttgart company and has appeared in works by John Cranko , George Balanchine , William Forsythe , Jiří Kylián , Hans van Manen , Nacho Duato , Uwe Scholz , Stephan Thoss , Roberto de Oliviera and Daniela Kurz to see.

In 1996 he switched to the ballet of the Stadttheater in Bern under the direction of Martin Schläpfer . There he played the role of death for the first time in Kurt Jooss ' "The Green Table", which he reinterpreted several times in Mainz, where he worked for balletmainz from 1999 to 2009 . He danced in choreographies by Hans van Manen, Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, Nils Christe, Stijn Celis , Philipp Egli, Gisela Rocha and Antony Tudor . Together with Martin Schläpfer he created numerous and concise solo roles in his ballets: Beethoven in “Diabelli Variations”, the doubting person in “Reformations Symphony” and “Radetzky March”, to name just a few.

From 2009 to 2013 he danced as a soloist in the Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf / Duisburg. Here he created the main roles in the “Trout Quintet” and in “Neither” by Martin Schläpfer. The 2012/2013 season marked his 20th stage anniversary.

At the beginning of the 2015/2016 season he succeeded Darrel Toulon as ballet director at the Graz Opera House (artistic director: Nora Schmid ). At the end of 2017, he announced that he would not extend his current contract after the end of the 2017/2018 season.

He has been working as a freelance choreographer since September 2018.

Works

  • In 2009, Weinöhl's solo evening Das Wissen der Nacht, interpreted by Weinöhl himself, was his first own full-length dance piece at the Mainz State Theater . In changing perspectives, myths, fairy tales and contemporary texts overlap in an interplay of dance and spoken word.
  • In 2011, in the 200th year of death of the poet Heinrich von Kleist , the staged concert with Dance Not Me - was premiered by Kleist's puppet theater in Thun . A work that was written in close collaboration with the composer Isabel Mundry over a period of two years.   • In 2012, on the occasion of the first solo exhibition “Staring into the Sun” by the American artist Chris Martin in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf , Jörg Weinöhl created the interactive dance installation Gestelte Zeit des Verweilens . In it he turns himself into a living performance loop, guided by the visitors of the exhibition.
