Nora Schmid (born October 8, 1978 in Bern ) is a Swiss dramaturge and artistic director of the Graz Opera in Austria .

Career

Nora Schmid studied musicology and business administration at the University of Bern , then in Rome . She was involved in the processing of the legacy of the music theorist Ernst Kurth . In addition, she completed a vocal training and gained practical experience at the Stadttheater Bern . She was also active as an assistant to Anselm Gerhard at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Bern.

Nora Schmid was involved in orchestra management at the basel sinfonietta and in marketing at the Unter den Linden State Opera in Berlin . In 2005 she became a music theater dramaturge at the Biel-Solothurn Theater under the direction of Hans J. Ammann. From 2007 she was a dramaturge at the Theater an der Wien (artistic director: Roland Geyer ), where she worked with directors such as Robert Carsen , Stephen Lawless , Christof Loy , Stefan Ruzowitzky and conductors such as Fabio Luisi and Bertrand de Billy .

In 2010/2011 she moved to Dresden as a dramaturge at the Semperoper and was a member of the board of directors in this function. In May 2012 Schmid was appointed chief dramaturge and personal assistant to the director Ulrike Hessler and after her death in July 2012 she was part of the interim management of the Semperoper Dresden.

Schmid has been artistic director of the Graz Opera since 2015 . At the end of 2017, the contract extension until the 2022/23 season was announced.

In 2018 Nora Schmid was elected to the Board of Directors of Opera Europe .
