Friedrich Everhard von Mering (born March 17, 1799 in Cologne ; † September 29, 1861 there ) was a German historian . He grew up in Haus zur Mühlen .

Life

Friedrich Everhard was the son of the art collector and baron Everhard Oswald von Mering († 1820) and his wife Elisabeth von Wecus, who was the daughter of a Cologne banker and councilor. After the death of his father, he inherited a fortune, but could not begin studying.

He collected "manuscripts, documents, occasional writings, books, historical material of all kinds" and published a series of works on the history of the Rhenish provinces that were received by other scholars. In recognition of his services, the Royal University of Munich awarded him a doctorate and King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia awarded him the gold medal for art and science .
