Friedrich Graf (local history researcher)

Friedrich Graf (born September 16, 1858 in Giersleben , † November 26, 1929 in Dessau ) was a German teacher, local researcher and local politician.

Life

Graf was born the son of a gardener. From Easter 1873 he was a seminarian in Koethen . In the spring of 1878, initially as a seminarian, he succeeded the teacher Völkerling at the elementary and community school in Oranienbaum . In the spring of 1880 he passed the state examination in Dessau. At Easter 1883 he was permanently accepted into the teaching service in Oranienbaum.

From 1889 he was a member of the Oranienbaum City Council for a total of 33 years. From 1919 to 1921 he was head of the city council. On October 8, 1921, on the occasion of his silver wedding anniversary , he was presented with Oranienbaum's letter of honorary citizenship . After 45 years of service as a teacher, he retired at Easter 1924.

Since the 1890s he was a member of the parish council of the evangelical parish of Oranienbaum, most recently as deputy chairman. Graf was the chairman of the local teachers' association for many years and was a member of the gymnastics club. He was an honorary member of the war club. In addition, he was a member of the poor commission and the board of trustees of the youth savings bank . As a local researcher he dealt with the history of Oranienbaum and the Wörlitzer Winkel.

Graf died on November 26, 1929 of complications from a stroke . He was buried in the Oranienbaum cemetery. His gravestone, a large, black cross made of basalt , bore the slogan: Earthling, use the time for good and be always ready to die. provided and existed until the 1960s, but was then removed in the course of the relocation of the grave site.

family

On September 30, 1884, he married Anna Neue from Oranienbaum. His daughter Johanna (1885–1960) was born on October 17, 1885. His wife died of diabetes on August 30, 1887 at the age of 25 . In October or November 1896 he married his cousin Sophie Wagner, who worked as a teacher in Groß-Weissand .

In 1912, 1918 and 1929 his grandchildren Friedrich Wilhelm, Erich and Gerhard Stolle were born.
