Friedrich Grießl

Friedrich Grießl (born May 20, 1905 in Mauritzen , † April 29, 1943 in Vienna ) was an Austrian communist resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .

Life

Friedrich Grießl comes from a family in a small town in Styria . After finishing school and completing vocational training , he became a civil servant in the municipal welfare office . From 1930 onwards he worked in the " Red Aid " because of his communist convictions .

After the " Anschluss of Austria " and the drafting into the Wehrmacht during the war of annihilation of the German Reich , he switched to active resistance against the continuation of the war. From his fellow Richard Zach made anti-militarist views on printed papers he spread. The printed messages read u. a .: "Down with Hitler's predatory war!", "Victory of the Red Army" and "Destruction of the Nazi exploiters!" Help us, comrades! ”In November 1941, Grießl was arrested and brought to justice. The death sentence was announced on December 12, 1942 . Before his execution, he wrote a suicide note to encourage his son to always walk upright through life, to always expand his knowledge and to act according to his conscience. The judgment was carried out on April 29, 1943 in the District Court Vienna I with the guillotine .

Friedrich Grießl was married and had a son with his wife.
