Friedrich Grotrian
Georg Friedrich Carl Grotrian (born January 13, 1803 in Schöningen ; † December 11, 1860 in Braunschweig ) was a German piano maker and entrepreneur.
Life
After training as a music and instrument dealer in Braunschweig, he emigrated to Russia in 1830. Friedrich Grotrian began producing table pianos in Moscow . After 26 years he returned to Lower Saxony in 1856. On October 7, 1858, he became a partner in Theodor Steinweg's piano manufacturing company in Wolfenbüttel. The production facility was then relocated to Braunschweig and the company was renamed "Grotrian-Steinweg". The Grotrian-Steinweg company still exists in Braunschweig today.
A second line of the company is named after Friedrich Grotrian. The case, frame and strings are made in China (Parsons Music), the final assembly in Germany. Other sources place the stringing in Braunschweig; the mechanics are largely from Renner .
