Friedrich Hetzel (born October 29, 1804 in Speyer ; † September 3, 1886 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) was a German banker who dedicated all of his fortune to charitable causes.

Among other things, he financed the Hetzelstift hospital , the Hetzelstift kindergarten and an orphanage in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . After his death, the childless Friedrich Hetzel left around one million marks. The interest from parts of this property still benefits the institutions he initiated.

Because of his services, he was made the first honorary citizen of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in 1872. On the occasion of his 80th birthday (1884), the Bavarian King Ludwig II awarded him the title of Kommerzienrat and the Order of Merit 1st Class from Saint Michael .

Hetzel received a city grave of honor at the central point of the main cemetery in Neustadt.
