The St. Mary's Hospital Hetzel pen , shortly Hetzel pen , in Neustadt an der Weinstraße ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a hospital of the basic and standard care and an academic teaching hospital of the University Medical Center Mainz . It is the only clinic in the Palatinate city.

Geographical location

Former infirmary

The hospital was built in the Kingdom of Bavaria as a result of a donation from the eponymous banker Friedrich Hetzel (1804–1886) in 1879. Construction began in 1886, the year the founder died, and in 1889 it was inaugurated.
