Friedrich I of Torgau
Friedrich I von Torgau († August 11, 1283 ) was Bishop of Merseburg from 1265 to 1283 .
Friedrich I came from the von Torgau ministerial family . His father was Withego von Torgau, among his brothers there was Heinrich von Torgau, who founded the Bohemian line of the family, and Withego, a canon of Merseburg. Friedrich I was also canon of Merseburg at first. In 1265 he was a candidate against Albrecht I of Borna for election as bishop. It was not until Albrecht I died that same year that he was re-elected for the cathedral chapter. As a bishop, he made several acquisitions for the Merseburg Monastery and continued to expand Zwenkau Castle . In 1268 he was active as auxiliary bishop in Naumburg .
