Friedrich III. Count and Lord zu Castell (also Friedrich IV .; † around 1376 in Großlangheim ) was ruler of the county of Castell from 1349 until his death . He shared the rule with his half-brother Hermann .

The decisive event in the 13th century in the county of Castell was the division of the lines in 1265/1267. This was preceded by a dispute between the brothers Heinrich II and Hermann I zu Castell . After the death of the two line founders, the sons Friedrich, from the Upper Castle, and Hermann II , the last of the Lower Castle line, came to power. Friedrich II expanded the fiefdoms that were given to the county by the Würzburg prince-bishopric.

Life

Friedrich III was mentioned for the first time. in 1342. He was the son of Friedrich II zu Castell and his second wife. The mother's name is not mentioned in the sources. Only the half-brother Hermann is mentioned. Before taking office, Friedrich was cathedral chapter . From 1349 he took over the government of the county together with his half-brother. After Hermann's death he became a district judge in Nuremberg . Friedrich III. died around 1376.

Marriage and offspring

Friedrich married Countess Adelheid von Nassau, the date of the marriage is not mentioned in the sources. Only the son and successor Leonhard is mentioned in the sources. The other son, Albrecht, died very young.
