Friedrich Kittlaus
Friedrich Kittlaus (born June 7, 1901 in Gallenau , Province of Silesia ; † September 9, 1991 in Berlin ) was director of the Berlin S-Bahn from 1949 to 1973 and vice-president of the Reichsbahndirektion (Rbd) Berlin.
Life
In 1933 he joined the NSDAP and was political leader. From 1938 he was employed by the Berlin S-Bahn.
After the war he lived in West Berlin, but had his job for many years at the Reichsbahndirektion in East Berlin's Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße (today Torstraße ). In this function he got caught up in the East-West conflict in the divided city. On the one hand, during his time as S-Bahn director, the construction of the Berlin Wall fell with the separation of the S-Bahn network and the subsequent S-Bahn boycott in West Berlin (1961), on the other hand, he organized despite great commitment and expertise major economic problems of the GDR and the constantly smoldering cold war the S-Bahn traffic in both parts of Berlin.
