Friedrich Kuhlmann (born February 14, 1939 in Soltau ) is a German agricultural economist and professor emeritus for agricultural management at the Justus Liebig University (JLU) in Giessen .

Live and act

Friedrich Kuhlmann studied agricultural science and economics at the University of Giessen and at the TU Berlin from 1962 to 1966 . He graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering. In 1968 he received his doctorate with the thesis "Models for economic growth - a theoretical and empirical study with special consideration of the agricultural sector". In 1971 he qualified as a professor in the subject of agricultural economics with the thesis "Withdrawable income in growing agricultural companies", after working as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Management at JLU Giessen from 1966 to 1971.

After a research stay with an additional degree in System Science at Michigan State University in the USA, Friedrich Kuhlmann was appointed professor for agricultural management at the University of Giessen and appointed head of an agricultural teaching and experimental farm. He was visiting professor at Michigan State University (1978/79), Northwest University in the PR China (1981) and Humboldt University in Berlin (1990/91). From 1973 to 1986 he was involved in over 20 short assignments for German Development Cooperation as a project planner and evaluator in Africa, South America and the Middle East. In 1985 the University of Gödöllö (Hungary) awarded him an honorary doctorate. He declined honorable appointments to the Technical University of Munich (1986) and the Humboldt University of Berlin (1993). In 2007 Friedrich Kuhlmann retired.

Friedrich Kuhlmann was Vice President of the University of Gießen (1981–1983), member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests (1994–2001), member of the board (1983–2006) and Vice President (2000–2006) of the German Agricultural Society ( DLG) and chairman of the Society for Economic and Social Sciences in Agriculture (1999–2002). He is an honorary member of both societies.

Kuhlmann's scientific work includes more than 200 journal and book publications as well as over 250 lectures on the theory of agricultural enterprises, IT-based decision support systems for farms and rural regions and resource economics. As a first supervisor, he led 107 young academics to doctorate, 15 of whom are now university professors as well. Since 1992 he has been co-editor of the magazine "Computers and Electronics in Agriculture".

Friedrich Kuhlmann is married and has two grown sons.
