Friedrich Lautenschlager

Friedrich Lautenschlager (born October 2, 1890 in Niefern , † January 11, 1955 in Karlsruhe ) was a German librarian and historian. From 1936 to 1955 he was director of the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe. The bibliography of Baden history is cited as a lute song after its first editor .

Life

Lautenschlager passed the Abitur at the Reuchlin-Gymnasium Pforzheim and then studied history, German, Romance studies and Latin in Berlin, Freiburg im Breisgau and Heidelberg. In 1915 he was with the work of the agricultural unrest in the Baden Standes- and manors in 1848 at the University of Heidelberg doctorate , in 1916 he passed the state office for the higher education service.

In 1915 Lautenschlager took over the editing of the Bibliography of Baden History , which had been brought into being in 1908 by the Baden Historical Commission . Also in 1915 he was employed as a scientific librarian at the Heidelberg University Library , first as a trainee, then as a scientific assistant, in 1921 as an extra librarian and in 1924 as a regular librarian. In 1929 he became a member of the Baden Historical Commission. In 1936 he was appointed director of the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe, which he headed - removed from office by the American military government from 1945 to 1948 - until his retirement in 1955. Lautenschlager rebuilt the holdings of the Badische Landesbibliothek, which were almost completely destroyed in an air raid in 1942. Until his death in 1955 he succeeded in making up about half of the war losses.
