Friedrich Ludwig Imhof

Friedrich Ludwig Imhof (born August 11, 1807 in Winterthur ; † December 21, 1893 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

life and work

Imhof was the son of Friedrich Samuel and did an apprenticeship in his father's spice business.

In 1852 the state of Thurgau sold the monastery buildings of Fischingen monastery to Imhof, who used them to manufacture dyed cotton fabrics with jacquard weaving and specialized in the export of finished fabrics. As the entrepreneur of the "Imhoof & Cie." Imhof was a central figure in the Swiss export business with Turkey and the Levant . In the autumn of 1875 Imhof sold the monastery building to the lawyer August Wild from Sirnach .

As a patron, Imhof promoted charitable works and supported numerous artists.
