Friedrich "Fiete" Magnussen (born January 22, 1914 in Kiel ; † October 30, 1987 ) was a Kiel press photographer .

Life

Magnussen grew up in Kiel on Knooper Weg. At the age of 13 he started taking photos with a 9 × 13 plate camera . He had a photo laboratory in his parents' apartment . The first recordings of him appeared in the Kieler Neuesten Nachrichten from 1934 onwards . After the Second World War he sold his photos to both the Kiel daily newspapers, the Volkszeitung and the Kieler Nachrichten . From 1952 he became a photographer for the Kieler Nachrichten , for which he worked until his retirement in 1977.

The Gesellschaft für Kieler Stadtgeschichte acquired around 500,000 black and white negatives from the photographer's estate and made them available to the Kiel city archive, which has been publishing the images on the Internet under a free license since 2015. Initially only 15,000 pictures were available in the photo archive of the city of Kiel, now 30,900 photos of Magnussen are available online. (As of March 18, 2020)
