Friedrich Masselter (born April 12, 1908 in Heusweiler ; † July 3, 1979 ) was a German Roman Catholic priest.

Life

Masselter was born as the oldest of three siblings. After graduating from high school in Trier, he studied Catholic theology at the University of Trier and at the Episcopal Seminary in Trier. On July 29, 1934, he was ordained a priest in Trier Cathedral . In 1942 he became an expositus in the newly founded parish of the Völklingen district of Heidstock . The first services were held in the attic above a grocery store, and from December 1943 a former barn served as an emergency church.

In April 1949, Masselter founded the Ketteler Association and, as chairman, was responsible for the construction of 17 residential buildings for his community members, which is now the Ketteler settlement. On August 15, 1952, the foundation stone was laid for the new building of the Pauluskirche, which was consecrated a year later, on October 11, 1953. Shortly thereafter, the community was raised to an independent parish. Masselter also pushed ahead with the construction of the rectory, which was inaugurated in February 1961, and from 1964 a new rectory with a kindergarten, a meeting room and youth rooms was built on his initiative. In 1967 the parish library opened, in December 1973 an old people's meeting place and in 1978 a social station was founded with his help.

He died on July 3, 1979 at the age of 71 and was buried in St. Paulus Church in Heidstock.
