Friedrich Mommsen (born January 3, 1818 in Flensburg , † February 1, 1892 in Rome ) was a German legal scholar and president of the state consistory in Kiel .

Life

Friedrich Mommsen was the son of the merchant Fedder Mommsen from Flensburg. He studied law in Kiel , Berlin and Munich. In Kiel he was a member of the Corps Holsatia . After the state examination (1841) he became a councilor at the Gottorf Higher Court .

He was one of the leading actors in the Schleswig-Holstein survey . In the election for the constituent Schleswig-Holstein state assembly , his candidacy in the 2nd Schleswig electoral district (Schleswig) was unsuccessful, but he was elected in the 12th Schleswig-Holstein electoral district (Grevenstein). Due to the "law of October 16, 1848 regarding the establishment of ministries" he became interim head of the Department of Justice under the Provisional Government . He retained this function under the Joint Government and left office on April 26, 1849. In the first regular elections to the Schleswig-Holstein State Assembly in the summer of 1850, he was re-elected to the Chamber and was a Vice President of the Presidium. As a councilor at the Schleswig Higher Court, he was explicitly excluded from the amnesty in 1851 and had to leave Schleswig-Holstein after the end of the survey.

1852 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen for Dr. iur. after receiving his doctorate, a year later he became a private lecturer and, in 1859, full professor of law. In 1864 Mommsen was appointed to the council of the appellate court in Schleswig. In 1867 he moved to the Prussian Higher Tribunal in Berlin.

From 1868 to 1891 he was consistorial president at the head of the Schleswig-Holstein regional church . In 1879 he was a curator at the University of Kiel. From 1884 Mommsen was also a member of the Prussian State Council.
