Friedrich Oswald Sauerbronn

Friedrich Oswald Sauerbronn (born September 26, 1784 in Hilsbach , † December 4, 1864 in Nova Friburgo ) was a German-born Protestant pastor who led the first Protestant congregation in Brazil .

Life

Friedrich Oswald Sauerbronn was the son of the pastor in Hilsbach, Karl Ludwig Sauerbronn. After studying theology , Friedrich Oswald Sauerbronn became a pastor in Becherbach near Kirn in 1809 .

After receiving a contract as a pastor in Brazil, he left in early May 1823 with his wife and eight children and arrived in Rio de Janeiro on January 23, 1824 . His wife died on the crossing. On May 3, 1824, he arrived in Nova Friburgo, where Pastor Sauerbronn began his service with the first German emigrant community in Brazil. In 1825 Sauerbronn married Christiane geb. Storck, with whom he had 15 children.

Pastor Sauerbronn was also responsible for the Protestant believers who came from Switzerland . He received a decent salary from the Brazilian government and was the parish minister until his death in 1864. He was buried in the municipal cemetery of Nova Friburgo, where his grave can still be seen today.
