Pütz's compositions include chamber music for concerts and lessons, as well as orchestral music. In 1985 the first LP with chamber music by Friedrich Pütz was released with Träumerei-Denk-Spiel , followed in 1986 by the LP Materials for a trip after a tour of Brazil by the Friedrich Puetz Ensemble. In 2001 the concert for guitar and orchestra was premiered by the Cologne Orchestra Society. In 2008 the pieces Saitenspiele for guitar and Variations for guitar were premiered in Mainz. In 2009 the CD Nachklänge was released with compositions for guitar by Friedrich Pütz from 1984 to 2007.

The composer has been working on the large-scale music theater Flucht for years . Each of the seven parts of the work forms a program and can stand for itself due to its own character. It is a game for voices, instrumentalists and dancers, whose actors actively participate according to comprehensible rules. This is aimed at a self-regulating, non-repressive-dirigistic implementation. The mixture of music, text, pantomime and dance is the multimedia attempt to systematically capture musical facts using existing examples and during the creation of music.
