Johann Friedrich Rohr (born February 11, 1850 in Vegesack ; † November 9, 1913 Vegesack) was a printing company owner , city ​​director and member of the Bremen citizenship .

biography

Rohr was the eldest son of the printing shop owner Johann Friedrich Rohr (1816–1878). He graduated from community school and did an apprenticeship as a printer. Then he went on a journey. After his father's death in 1878, he took over the business. The father's business had published the Vegesacker Wochenblatt , then Vegesacker Wochenschrift , since 1849 . The son modernized the paper and called it Norddeutsche Volkszeitung , which has appeared daily since 1885.

Rohr was a freemason and founded the masonic lodge Anker der Eintracht in 1885 , where he held the post of second master from 1898 to 1913 . Rohr acquired the house at Weserstrasse No. 7 in Vegesack for the lodge .

Politics and savings bank

Rohr had been a member of the Vegesack City Council since 1879 . In 1882 he took over the office of a city council. From 1884 to 1888 he was elected a member of the Bremen citizenship. From 1888 to 1900 he was elected city ​​director of Vegesack. During his tenure, the gas and water supply and the sewage system were modernized and Sedanplatz was created. In 1900 he became chairman of the board of the Sparkasse Vegesack , which came to Sparkasse Bremen in 1939 . As head of the Sparkasse, he built the Vegesack Beach Pleasure . From 1901 to 1908 and from 1912 until his death he was again a member of the Bremen citizenship. From 1902 to 1909 he took on the role of builder of the United Evangelical Protestant Church Congregation. From 1910 until his death he was again city director of Vegesack. He devoted himself to the school system, ordered the police system and was a member of the hospital commission. His tomb has been preserved in the Vegesack cemetery on Lindenstrasse .

Honors

The Rohrstraße in Vegesack (before Bay Street ) to lay the print shop, was named after him.
