Friedrich Vincent Leon

Frederick Vincent Leon (* 20th April 1836 in Klagenfurt , † 27. April 1898 ) was an Austrian printers and publishing bookseller ( publishers ).

Life

Friedrich Vinzenz Leon was born on April 20, 1836 as the son of the printer and publisher and bookseller Johann Barthlmä Leon in Klagenfurt in the Austrian Empire . Together with his brother Johann, he took over the printing and publishing house in 1862 and ran it together with his brother until 1879. In that year, the division of the company followed with the opening of another bookstore in Marburg an der Drau and Friedrich Vinzenz Leon was in charge the company in Klagenfurt continues on its own in the spirit of the father, partly with expansion of the publishing activities by promoting linguistic, folk and hunting literature. In 1881, Leon founded the first illustrated hunting newspaper of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with the title Waidmannsheil . From 1890 onwards, other newspapers appeared under Leon's leadership, such as the Neue Carinthia in 1890 or the Carinthia I in 1891. Between 1870 and 1873 he published the newspaper he bought free votes , which he subsequently shared with his son-in-law, the Carinthian member of parliament and later Reichstag deputy Josef Wolfgang Dobernig , who thereupon himself appeared as editor of the newspaper between 1886 and 1907. As early as 1869 to 1881 Leon published the newspaper of the mining and smelting association for Carinthia and also from 1875 to 1881 the papers for the Alpine countries of Austria . Furthermore, Leon, whose bookstore existed until the 20th century, is one of the founders of the Klagenfurt section of the DÖAV and the Glocknerhaus in Heiligenblut am Großglockner . One week after his 62nd birthday, Leon died in his native city of Klagenfurt.
