Friedrich Waldow

Friedrich Waldow (born January 13, 1915 in Stettin ; † January 31, 2013 in Essen ) was a German deaf activist .

He lost his hearing at the age of five. From 1920 to 1928 he attended the institution for the deaf and dumb in Stettin, and in 1931 he completed his education in the deaf school in Berlin-Neukölln .

In 1950 he founded the German Deaf Newspaper with Heinrich Siepmann and was editor-in-chief, and since 1974 its publisher.

As early as 1932, Friedrich Waldow was secretary of the Szczecin Deaf Sports Club. In the German Deaf Sports Association he was managing director from 1951 to 1974 and president from 1974 to 1991, and since 1991 honorary president. From 1971 to 1978 and from 1981 to 1985 he was Vice President of the Committee International des Sports Sourds .

In 1959 he took over the office of managing director of the German Deaf Association , which he held until 1969.

In 1981 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in recognition of his services . Friedrich Waldow died at the end of January 2013 at the age of 98
