Friedrich Wilhelm Eckhardt

Friedrich Wilhelm Eckhardt (born February 25, 1892 in Kassel , † April 9, 1961 in Niederlehme ) was a German engineer and head of the design office of the Berliner Maschinenbau-Actien-Gesellschaft formerly L. Schwartzkopff .

Friedrich Wilhelm Eckhardt first worked at Henschel & Sohn and switched to L. Schwartzkopff in 1916 . In 1936 he became a senior engineer.

He played a key role in the design of the class 41 and class 84 steam locomotives . For the latter, he developed the Schwartzkopff-Eckhardt steering frame named after him to improve the cornering ability of steam locomotives.

He also published several books on the building and construction of steam locomotives .
