Friedrich Wilhelm Otto (philologist)

Friedrich Wilhelm Otto (born February 5, 1805 in Zittau , † April 21, 1866 in Gießen ) was a German classical philologist .

Otto attended the Johanneum High School in Zittau from 1817 and studied at the University of Leipzig from 1826 . On March 15, 1833 he became a provisional collaborator at the Philological Seminar of the University of Gießen , where he received his doctorate on March 3, 1834, and was since December 24, 1836, a full collaborator at the Philological Seminar in Gießen. From 1836 to 1849 he was an assistant teacher at the Giessen high school and from 1844 until his retirement on September 26, 1864, he was an associate professor of philology at the University of Giessen.
