Friedrich Wingert

Friedrich Wingert (born November 4, 1939 in Darmstadt , † July 29, 1988 in Münster ) was a medical computer scientist and biomathematist .

Life

Wingert studied medicine and mathematics at the University of Frankfurt am Main and graduated in 1969 medicine with a state examination and doctorate and in 1970 mathematics with a diploma . In 1971 he qualified as a professor at the Hannover Medical School for the subjects of medical informatics and biometrics. From 1973 until his death he was a full professor and director of the newly founded institute for medical informatics and biomathematics at the University of Münster .

Friedrich Wingert adapted the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) for the German-speaking area and developed it further. He was particularly concerned with fundamental theories and algorithms of medical linguistics and decisively shaped the methods for the computer-aided analysis of medical plan texts.

The Friedrich Wingert Foundation annually awards a sponsorship prize for outstanding linguistic and semantic approaches to optimize medical care in Germany .
