From 1870 he was Ferdinand Nägele's successor as a member of the state parliament for the constituency of Backnang. On July 8, 1875, he resigned his mandate because of the promotion to President of the General Directorate of the Transport Authority, but after re-election on March 28, 1876, he re-entered the state parliament.
