Friedrich von Walbeck

Friedrich von Walbeck ( 974 - after 1018) was burgrave of Magdeburg .

Life

Friedrich was a son of Count Siegfried von Walbeck and Kunigunde von Stade. He was born in 974. His brothers were Bishop Thietmar von Merseburg , Count Heinrich von Walbeck and Bishop Siegfried von Münster .

Friedrich was the first burgrave of Magdeburg to have survived. In 998 he kidnapped Heinrich and cousin Werner von Walbeck , Margrave of the Nordmark, his bride from the canonical monastery of Quedlinburg . In 1009 he fought with Werner against Dedo I. von Wettin .

It was last mentioned in 1012. The Chronicle of Thietmar ended in 1018. Friedrich was probably still alive at the time.

Friedrich was married to Thietberga. A son is narrated

  1. Annalista Saxo without giving any years, Thietmar von Merseburg does not mention him as a burgrave. So possibly only after 1018 = the end of the chronicle.
