Müritz-Elde-Wasserstraße and Friedrichsmoor carp ponds

The carp ponds on the right side of the Müritz-Elde waterway consist of a total of twelve basins, which are separated from each other by dams on which paths and roads run. The section of the waterway, which is also called Friedrich-Franz-Kanal , is designed here as a high canal, which means that the water level is above the level of the surrounding landscape. The extensive pond areas are located about four kilometers north of Neustadt-Glewe. The eponymous district of Friedrichsmoor is three kilometers to the west. To the east, the municipality of Spornitz borders the ponds and the canal. The square pond basins cover a total area of 3.3 km². The maximum extension is 3.8 kilometers in north-south direction and 1.35 kilometers from west to east. The Friedrichmoor carp ponds are divided into the six northern basins, called Spornitz Nord ponds , and the six southern basins, Spornitz Süd ponds . On the streets that cross the ponds there are vantage points at the Spornitzer and Dütschower Bridge .

The water levels in the pools vary in height and range from 35.5 to 36.9  m above sea level. NHN . The fish ponds are filled via the slightly higher Müritz-Elde waterway. Water can be drained off via a system of ditches that flows into the original course of the Elde, which lies below and to the west .

The Friedrichsmoor carp ponds were created until around the middle of the 20th century. Together with a large part of the Neuhöfer carp ponds located on the left side of the Müritz-Elde waterway , other ponds between Friedrichsmoor and Tramm , adjacent areas and the course of the Elde in this area, they are part of the Fischteiche nature reserve in the Lewitz .
