The Neuhöfer carp ponds are located in the north of the urban area of Neustadt-Glewe in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Lewitz nature reserve .

Neuhöfer carp ponds

The carp ponds on the left side of the Müritz-Elde-Wasserstraße (MEW) consist of a total of twelve larger and other small basins, which are separated from each other by dams on which paths and roads run in part. The extensive bodies of water are located about two kilometers north of Neustadt-Glewe. The eponymous district of Neuhof is located directly on the south bank. The municipality of Spornitz borders the ponds in the north and northeast . The mostly square pond basins cover a total area of 3.6 km². The maximum extension is 3.6 kilometers in north-south direction and 1.45 kilometers from west to east. In the course of the MEW there is a lock with a lifting height of around four meters and a hydroelectric power station at the level of the Neuhöfer carp ponds. Above the lock, this part of the waterway, also known as the Friedrich-Franz-Canal , lies above the terrain level of the surrounding area and has therefore been created here as a high canal.

Starting from the north, the Neuhöfer carp ponds are divided into two Neuhöfer ponds , two Dagmar ponds , the Neuhöfer pond and seven pools known as winter ponds. The water levels of the five largest pond basins are of different heights and are 34.8 to 35.4  m above sea level. NHN . The fish ponds are filled via the Müritz-Elde waterway, which is higher up above the lock. Water can be drained into the MEW below the lock via a trench system and into the Brenz Canal via further trenches .

Most of the Neuhöfer carp ponds, together with the Friedrichsmoor carp ponds on the right-hand side of the Müritz-Elde waterway , adjacent areas, other ponds between Tramm and Friedrichsmoor and the original course of the Elde in this area, are part of the Fischteiche nature reserve in the Lewitz .
