Frigyes Hidas
Frigyes Hidas [ ˈfriɟɛʃ ˈhidɒʃ ] (born May 25, 1928 in Budapest ; Hungary ; † March 7, 2007 there ) was a Hungarian composer .
Life
Hidas studied composition at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in his hometown with János Visky. From 1951 to 1966, Hidas was orchestra director at the National Theater and, after his resignation in the same year, became orchestra director and director of the Budapest People's Theater. He stayed that way until 1974, when he became music director at the municipal operetta theater . After leaving this position in 1979, he became a freelance composer.
Works
Hidas wrote only tonal works because he was a firm believer in harmonies and melodies. His complete works contain all genres: operas, ballets, concerts, orchestral works, chamber music, choral works and solo pieces. His chamber music for wind instruments and his works for wind orchestra are particularly noted. Particularly noteworthy is his Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra No. 1; it is the most popular Hungarian oboe concerto today . Stylistically, his works can be assigned to the Romantic period .
