Fritz Beckmann (entrepreneur)

Fritz Beckmann (born August 10, 1850 in Solingen ; † July 25, 1918 ) was a German businessman and president of the Solingen Chamber of Commerce.

Live and act

Fritz Beckmann and his brother, the chemist Ernst Beckmann , were the sons of Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Beckmann (1809–1887), the founder of an abrasives company. Beckmann married Anna Henriette Henckels (1855–1911) in 1875, and through their marriage he became a co-owner of the JA Henckels company in Solingen (today twin JA Henckels) and brother-in-law of Alfred Wolters . Beckmann was one of the most influential personalities in Solingen in his time. His son Paul Beckmann (1881–1963) later also joined the JA Henckels company.

In 1897 he was elected member of the Prussian House of Representatives.

Beckmann was elected President of the Solingen Chamber of Commerce (today the Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid Chamber of Commerce and Industry ) to succeed Albert Schnitzler in 1905 . He held this office until 1918, followed by Carl Duisberg .
