Fritz Bothmann (born April 5, 1858 in Gotha ; † December 25, 1928 there ) was a German entrepreneur who founded the Gothaer Waggonfabrik AG.

Life

Bothmann grew up in Gotha as the son of an estate manager and initially trained as a locksmith . In 1883 he started his own business and set up his own locksmith's shop on the property at Fahnenstrasse 11 in Gotha. There he began making carousels . In 1885 the company moved into premises on Langensalzaer Straße 24, as the business expanded rapidly. 1892 the merchant Louis brought happiness additional capital into the company, which is now called "Fritz Both man & Casino Maschinenfabrik & Carussellbau-Anstalt" was renamed . The orders included, among other things, the motorization and renovation of the Wilhelmsbader carousel, built in 1780, in 1898.

In addition, a profitable business began with the construction of trams and railroad cars . The company delivered the first five trams for the city of Gotha in 1894. In 1896 Bothmann built a new plant at the intersection of Kindleber Strasse and the railway line to Langensalza , with which he laid the foundation stone for what would later become the Gothaer wagon factory.

As early as 1898, the company was converted into a stock corporation, which now carried the company Gothaer Waggonfabrik AG . The company's production program included railway wagons, trams and special trains. In 1899 he had a villa built on the property at Seebachstrasse 11 by the Gotha architect Richard Klepzig . It was jokingly referred to in the vernacular as the "carousel band".

In 1905 Bothmann resigned from the management of the wagon factory and founded a new company in what is now Südstrasse, where he again had wagons and carousels built. However, in hyperinflation it went bankrupt .

In 1912 Bothmann was awarded the honorary title of Commercial Councilor for his services to Gotha's economy .
