career
Fritz Breuer gained his first experience in higher-class football from the 1949/50 season at SC Rapid Cologne in the 2nd League West. The 20-year-old played all 30 second division games and scored 17 goals as a center forward alongside teammate Herbert Dörner . Rapid finished sixth in Group 1. After the third season, 1951/52, Rapid relegated to the amateur camp; Breuer had scored 36 goals in three rounds in 85 association games and joined the first division club 1. FC Köln. In its debut round in the Oberliga West, 1952/53 , FC was runner-up under coach Helmut Schneider and Rapid's newcomer had scored 13 goals in 24 appearances. The other newcomer Walter Müller from Göttingen 05 brought it to 17 and Hans Schäfer was the top scorer with 26 goals. Breuer played his first four final round matches (1 goal) in 1953 at the side of teammates such as Frans de Munck , Paul Mebus , Georg Gawliczek and Josef Röhrig against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Holstein Kiel and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Breuer I played for 1. FC Köln for twelve years , from 1959 to 1962 together with Christian Breuer (both not related). Fritz, who came to 1. FC from Deutz 05 via Köln-Mülheimer SV and SC Rapid Köln, took part with the billy goats in several final rounds of the German championship . However, it was "only" enough for a runner-up championship. In 1960 Cologne lost in the final (with Christian, but without Fritz Breuer) against Hamburger SV with 2: 3. Neither he had stood in the Elf in 1954, in the final of the German Cup the VfB Stuttgart 0: was inferior to 1 after extra time.
In total, he was used in 204 competitive games for the billy goats and scored 32 goals. 17 games of these took place in the final round of the German championship. He was also in the 1958/59 season in one of the two trade fair cup first round matches against Birmingham City in the Cologne city selection , which was supervised by Hennes Weisweiler , the coach of local rivals SC Viktoria .
In the first Bundesliga season, Fritz Breuer was still a member of the 1. FC Köln squad. However, he was not used in any Bundesliga game of the team that won the German championship at the end of the season. At the end of his career, Fritz Breuer was still a player-coach at his home club Deutz 05 . The trained driver later worked as a sales representative in the perfumery wholesale business.
Breuer died in January 2017 at the age of 87 of complications from cancer and left behind a son. His grave is located in Cologne's North Cemetery (hall 33 no. 100).
