Fritz Carl Anton Englund

Fritz Carl Anton Englund (born November 22, 1871 - † January 14, 1933 ) was a Swedish chess player . He is considered one of the most important chess players in Scandinavia at the beginning of the 20th century.

Towards the end of 1932 Englund hosted a themed tournament in Stockholm in which the first moves (1. d2 – d4 e7 – e5 2. d4xe5 Nb8 – c6 3. Ng1 – f3 Qd8 – e7 4. Qd1 – d5) were given. Because of this tournament, the opening 1. d2 – d4 e7 – e5 was named the Englund Gambit and the variant played in the tournament was named the Stockholm variant . Gösta Stoltz won the tournament.
