Fritz Gretzschel

Fritz Gretzschel (born November 28, 1906 in Berlin ; † September 14, 1979 there ) was a German boxing manager .

Life

Gretzschel initially worked as a supplier, at a company that sold paints and varnishes, he worked his way up from worker to general manager.

Among other things, he was the manager of Gustav “Bubi” Scholz , Eckhard Dagge , Leo Kakolewicz , Hartmut Sasse , Bernd August and Wolfgang Gans . In 1962 he was the organizer of the first boxing world championship match on German soil. In addition to his boxing activities, he supported Tennis Borussia Berlin as a sponsor and was appointed honorary chairman of the club. In 1952, a fight evening organized by Gretzschel was the first boxing event held in Germany to be televised after the Second World War.

On September 14, 1979, Gretzschel died in a Berlin hospital after suffering his fourth stroke . On the occasion of his death, the Hamburger Abendblatt called him one of the "leading managers and promoters in professional boxing". Gretzschel himself described his approach as the organizer of boxing matches in 1973 as follows: "Good sport for moderate prices is my motto."
