Fritz Huebner

Fritz Huebner (born April 25, 1933 in Sachsengrün , † June 16, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

After attending elementary school, Hübner did an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and cabinet maker, and he also received private singing lessons from J. Stieler at the Conservatory in Dessau - at that time he was working in the carpentry of the State Theater Dessau.

In 1957 Hübner made his debut in Bernburg , from 1953 to 1955 he was engaged at the Stadttheater von Köthen , from 1955 to 1956 at the Landestheater Dessau. Afterwards he was engaged in the choir of the Leipzig Opera House, to which he belonged for two seasons.

In 1959 and 1960 he sang as a soloist in Nordhausen (Thuringia) and from 1960 to 1962 at the Saxon State Theater Dresden-Radebeul. In 1962 Hübner was engaged at the Komische Oper Berlin , to whose ensemble he belonged until 1974.

Since 1974 he has been engaged at the Berlin State Opera , where he was particularly successful in the Wagner repertoire. He gave his stage farewell in 1995 at this house.

From 1978 to 1985, Hübner sang regularly at the Bayreuth Festival . Hübner has made guest appearances in Hamburg, Munich, at the Vienna State Opera (Osmin), in Paris, London and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Landgraf).

His most important roles included Osmin, Komtur, Sarastro, Rocco, Don Basilio, Daland, Landgrave, King Brand, Fafner, Hunding, Hagen, Sparafucile, Procida, Father Guardian, King Philip, Grand Inquisitor, Ramphis, Konchak, Gremin, Timur, Tommaso and porgy.

Fritz Huebner received the National Prize of the GDR in the III. Art and literature class.
