The Federação Angolana de Atletismo ( Portuguese for: Angolan Athletics Association, FAA) is the umbrella organization for athletics in Angola . The association is based in the capital, Luanda , in the Complexo da Cidadela Desportiva , a sports complex on Rua Senado da Câmara.

history

The association was founded on February 19, 1979, after Angola's independence from Portugal in 1975.

In 1981 the FAA became a member of the World Athletics Federation .

structure

The FAA is formally a legal entity under private law and is recognized as a non-profit, non-profit sports association. She is a member of the Angolan Olympic Committee , the Comité Olímpico Angolano , the African Athletics Association CAA , the Ibero-American Athletics Association AIA , and the World Athletics Association IAAF .

25 associations in Angola are organized in the FAA. The FAA is subdivided into the 18 provincial associations of the Angolan provinces .

activities

Every year the FAA organizes or co-organizes around 20 running events in the country. The most important event is the Luanda New Year's Eve run . For the 59th edition of the São Silvestre de Luanda on December 31, 2014, the FAA expects the record of 3,000 registered athletes of both sexes, including 79 foreign runners from 21 countries.

The FAA also supports Angolan athletes at international events, for example as a member of the Angola's National Olympic Committee, and organizes their participation in international competitions.
