Fritz Hoffmann (theologian)

Fritz Hoffmann (born February 25, 1913 in Breslau ; † October 24, 2007 in Erfurt ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman, fundamental theologian and philosopher .

Life

Hoffmann received the sacrament of ordination through Cardinal Bertram in Breslau on August 1, 1937 and was active there in the following years as a pastor and scientist.

In 1941 he received his doctorate at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University in Breslau with the work The First Critique of Ockhamism by the Oxford Chancellor Johannes Lutterell . In 1952 Hoffmann was appointed lecturer for fundamental theology at the then newly founded Philosophical-Theological Study in Erfurt . He completed his habilitation in 1957 with the thesis The Theological Method by the Oxford Dominican teacher Robert Holcot and received a call to professor for fundamental theology and philosophy in Erfurt, where he taught until his retirement in 1978.

His studies on the late medieval English theologians Johannes Lutterell and Robert Holcot were widely recognized worldwide .

Fritz Hoffmann died on October 24, 2007 in the Carolinenstift in Erfurt and was buried on October 30 of the same year after the Requiem in the Erfurt Cathedral at the main cemetery in Erfurt .
