Fritz Kühnemann (born April 2, 1840 in Pleschen , † July 29, 1917 in Berlin ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

Fritz Kühnemann studied mechanical engineering in Karlsruhe and was a councilor in Berlin. He was the owner of a machine factory in Berlin-Wedding .

Kühnemann was chairman of the association in 1879 , which organized a trade exhibition in Berlin in 1879. He was also chairman of the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists , headed by Ludwig Max Goldberger (1848–1913). In 1892, both associations made proposals for a world exhibition in Berlin. However, this failed because of rivalries, financial problems, and because Kaiser Wilhelm II did not want a world exhibition.

Instead of the world exhibition, the Berlin trade exhibition , which Fritz Kühnemann helped to organize, took place in Treptower Park in 1896 . This is also referred to as the "prevented world exhibition", as the Berlin merchants nevertheless organized an exhibition of the same size. With an area of 900,000 m², the world exhibitions that had taken place up to that point were outbid.

Kühnemannstrasse in Berlin is named after him.
