Fritz Karl Zbinden

Fritz (Karl) Zbinden (born October 26, 1896 in Basel , † October 2, 1968 in Horgen ) was a Swiss painter , draftsman and graphic artist .

Life

Fritz Zbinden completed an apprenticeship in his parents' book printing company in Basel and took drawing and painting courses at the Basel trade school with Albrecht Mayer. He later trained in painting with Cuno Amiet on the Oschwand. He traveled to Italy with the painter Werner Miller . In 1925 he married Hélène Amande, a textile designer and painter, in Paris. After his years in Paris, he lived on Zimmerberg above Horgen on Lake Zurich. In 1924 he created a series of pictures about life in the Freidorf Muttenz on behalf of Hannes Meyer.

Zbinden's circle of influence and friends includes numerous Swiss artists such as Werner Miller, Ernst Morgenthaler , Otto Baumberger , Cuno Amiet and the architect and Bauhaus teacher Hannes Meyer .

After a stay in Sweden, Zbinden died at his place of residence after a short illness. In the Atelier Zbinden Horgenberg , national artists were also exhibited later and musical performances took place there.

His artistic activities were reflected in oil painting, tempera painting, watercolors, drawings, wall paintings, sgraffito, fresco, illustrations and included landscapes, portraits and still lifes. He usually signed his pictures briefly with "F. Zbinden".
