Fritz Paul Zimmer (* 1895 in Germany ; † March 24, 1975 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was a German-American sculptor, architect and designer.

Life

Fritz Paul Zimmer was born in Germany in 1895 and studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy , where he was an assistant teacher for drawing and sculpture and won a gold medal. He later attended the Württemberg State School of Applied Arts and the Munich Art Academy .

As a result, he went to the State Opera in Stuttgart , where he worked as a studio assistant, director, costume designer and set designer and then taught at the “Urania Commercial Art School” in Zurich . He studied architecture in Rome , Florence and Ravenna .

Together with his wife Hermine, nee Leibel, he went to the USA in 1925, where he taught as a professor of fine and applied arts at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia from 1930 to 1934 . In 1932 he became an American citizen.

During the years in America he also worked as an interior designer and designed many interiors for clients in Buckhead. Also designed for the Paterson Funeral Home and furnished numerous churches and public buildings across Georgia.
